About Face:The Benefits of Silk Pillowcases
My sleeping beauties Mallory and Averell on Christmas Eve 1995. I always regret not sending it out as a Christmas card that year. Here’s to second chances!
True Confession: I Love to Sleep! Eric is convinced that I’m going to live a very, very long time, because of the hours that I spend asleep between the sheets. To me there is nothing better than placing my head down on a clean pillowcase and sliding into cool sheets for a long slumber.
Because I’m expected to live such a long life, I would prefer to do so looking as young as possible. That’s where sleeping on silk pillowcases comes in. It’s a beauty sleep’s secret weapon, keeping our skin ultra-soft and crease free.
So it was time for me to trade in my old cotton pillowcases for something a bit more luxurious. What I do in the name of beauty!
In choosing the right silk pillowcase, I learned that it had to 100% silk and that mulberry silk is preferable. To be more specific long strand mulberry silk with a traditional charmeuse weave (Yeah, you’ll need to write that one down) as it’s the smoothest and to be perfectly honest the fanciest.
I’m a side sleeper, as much as I would like to convert to sleeping on my back and avoiding pressing down on my face. The sleep crease that I use to get from contorting my face on a cotton pillowcase was a little like ironing wrinkles into my skin. That’s why sleeping on silk really helps in avoiding those telling tale creases on my face.
Because silk controls temperature, it makes my face feel and look less puffy in the morning. Lastly after the first week of using a silk pillowcase, my skin was noticeably softer, like I-shouldn’t-touch-my-face-but-I-can’t-help-it-soft.
Final Verdict? A silk pillowcase is an absolute must for every woman, nay PERSON!
Give it a try and please let me know what you think. Sleep tight!
