Dancing in the Rain in Southampton…all for a Good Cause!

I’ve always been a sucker or the 4th of July, fireworks and a good cause.  Throw in a torrential rain storm and you have the right mix to ignite the evening with laughter and dancing…yes, even in the rain. So we were all looking forward to attending Southampton Fresh Air Home’s American Picnic, to support a very worthy cause (a summer camp for physically challenged children)and my dear friend Kim, who was chairing the event.

(Beautiful Kim all decked out in red, white and blue)

Having known Kim since high school, I can honestly say she is the funniest, smartest,  and most successful person I know.  She is also a loyal friend and god mother to our oldest daughter Mallory. Kim also has the distinction of catching the bouquet at our wedding and for being with me when I found out I was pregnant after a five year ordeal to conceive.

The party, which was being held at a ocean front estate on Meadow Lane in Southampton, had all the promises of a memorable evening; a carnival theme, fabulous food and the perfect on the water setting for fireworks, by the renown Grucci brothers no less.

Everything was set up and ready for the guests to arrive.  The sky did look a little ominous!  But so far the rain was holding back!

I snapped this photograph of the family just as a few drops of water started to fall on us.  Clearly from the smiles on the faces, nothing was going to stop us from having a good time.

Then the deluge hit and we headed for cover under the dj’s tent, not before grabbling a few bottles of Whispering Angel Rose to tied us over.  Before we knew it, we had out own little party going!   So while the fireworks never went off because of poor visibility, the party rolled on and we danced….

It is a really great cause, especially when you see how much the children get out of the summer camp. Thank you!
