Gwyneth, Gossip and Goop
A little over a year ago, Star magazine named Gwyneth Paltrow as the “most hated celebrity” and People, as the “world’s most beautiful woman.” These two opposing viewpoints highlight just how polarizing the actress has become.
There are clearly the anti-Gwynethites, who find her views out of touch with the common folk and the pro-Gwynethites, who clearly worship at her well-manicured feet.
Since I don’t fall into either category, I decided to pop down to Goop’s Pop Up store at Maiden Lane to see for myself what all the brouhaha is about.
Gossip maven Perez Hilton recently skewered her for the $15,000 24-karat gold sex toy in Goop’s recent “Sex Issue”. I wonder what a stainless steel version would cost?
Before we go any further, I do have to reveal one small bias on my part. Gwyneth and I both attended the Spence School in Manhattan, which is a private all girl, K through 12th grade, school. From my experience, Spence girls tend to stick together.
Anyway, what I found was a very well edited collection of clothes, clean beauty products, home goods and kitchenware. To my feigned relief, there was not a sex toy in sight.
What made the trip downtown to 140 Maiden Lane especially rewarding was the Frank Lloyd Wright’s building, which Goop commandeered. It’s a stunning small-scale prototype of Wright’s design of the Guggenheim museum.
I was about to buy this small plastic “Love” key chain for my youngest daughter Olivia. That is until I noticed the price tag read $165. I think I’ll wait and pick one up at our local “Five and Dime” store for under $20. She’ll never know the difference.
