Over the Rainbow, Hawaii

We set out at 5pm to roam around the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel before sunset. The “over the rainbow” colors of the Hawaiian foliage, ocean and sky were the perfect backdrop for the clothes.
My love of resort wear is not much of a secret! My daughters are always kidding me about my ever-growing collection.
At this point, I have a whole closet devoted to my vacation and summer wardrobe. (Making a note to myself to I go through it and start weeding some things out.)
I tend to buy the pieces when I’m on holiday, somewhere sunny and fashionable, where unique boutiques abound. After all, who in their right mind would venture down to the Union Square shops in the summer to shop for tropical wear?
W.C. Field was dead right when he said: “the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco…” Now you know that I abhor summers in San Francisco and try to get out of town as much as possible.
While staying in Southampton last summer, which is truly a mecca for fun and stylish boutiques, I discovered Gretchen Scott’s store on Jobs Lane.
I absolutely loved the vibrant colors and ocean patterns of the clothes. They have a very similar look and feel to those of J. McLaughlin’s, but at a much lower price point.
The designer’s mantra is “Laugh more; Gripe less; Ignore critics; Say yes; Order Dessert; Love life”. Now who can argue with that?
I find that Gretchen Scott’s clothes are smart, sexy, comfortable and utterly flattering.
With all of that in mind, I thought they were the perfect clothes to wear while vacationing at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel in Hawaii.
